Feel Better Soup
Flu season this year has been ruthless, don’t believe me check with the CDC! Not to mention this crazy Texas weather! Odds are that either you or a loved one is sick. When “sana, sana” doesn’t work, make my easy Feel Better Soup for whoever needs a soothing meal.
Why it’s nutrient packed:
- Chicken/Veggie Broth – Helps prevent dehydration, fluids are a must when you’re under the weather.
- Cumin – The second most used spice in the World next to pepper, boosts the immune system and aids in digestion.
- Turmeric – Naturally helps with inflammation.
- Chili Flakes – The spiciness serves as a natural decongestant.
- Love – All things made with love warm the heart <3
- 1.5 lbs chicken drumsticks
- 8 cups water
- 1 quart chicken broth
- 1 quart vegetable broth
- 4-6 celery leafstalks
- ½ lb chopped carrots
- 1 cup diced white onion
- 3 tbsp turmeric
- 2 tbsp cumin
- 1 tsp chili flakes
- 1 tsp chicken flavored bullion
- 1 tbsp sea salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1.5 lbs wide egg noodles
- cilantro and limes for garnishing
- Dice the onions into small pieces, the carrots into bite sized chunks, and the celery into 1 inch half moons, place in large pot.
- Add water and carefully place the chicken drumsticks into the pot, boil uncovered for 10 minutes.
- Add the vegetable broth and the chicken broth, season with turmeric, cumin, chili flakes, chicken flavored buillon, sea salt, and pepper.
- Once it reaches a boil, lower down to medium, and place the cover onto the pot. Stir a few times as it cooks, replacing the lid each time. After 25 minutes, add the egg noodles and cover again.
- After 10 minutes the egg noodles should be softened.
- Serve soup piping hot and garnish with cilantro and limes for extra flavor.

I had a ton of leftovers, and it tasted even better the next day! Egg noodles are super absorbent, so if you see your soup thickening up too much, add more water when you heat it back up. An alternative to cooking over the stove top is to throw everything in a slow cooker and cook on low for 4-5 hours!
The turmeric is what gives this soup its beautiful orange-yellow color!
