How to Bake Tofu
I have cooked tofu several ways, but my favorite way is to bake it! Tofu comes from sprouted soybeans and even the organic blocks are extremely affordable. Expect to pay less than $5 for a package that serves 2-3 people. I made Vegetarian Pad Thai for this recipe, but the focus of this post is to walk you through the steps of how I bake tofu from start to finish. If I had to describe tofu to someone that’s never seen it, I would have to say it looks like a huge block of firm, but spongy cheese? Haha, that was my best try!
- Buy organic extra firm tofu. (Soft tofu is better suited for smoothies and firm tofu holds its shape better.)
- Choose your favorite sauce to give it flavor, tofu literally absorbs anything! (You may already have these in your fridge: Buffalo sauce, Siracha, soy sauce, pad Thai sauce, hot sauce, salsa, peanut sauce, stir fry sauce, coconut milk, enchilada sauce, mole, etc.)
- Grab a baking sheet and parchment paper.

Easy baked tofu for beginners.
Ingredients
- 1 package organic extra firm tofu
- 4 tbsp pad Thai sauce
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp soy sauce
Instructions
- Carefully open package of tofu and drain, remove tofu block from plastic and wrap tightly in a dry paper towel.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Remove paper towel from tofu, it should be soaking wet.
- On a cutting board, slice tofu into square pieces, this can be modified to your liking, choose a size that works for you. I tend to fluctuate between 1-3 inch pieces, just make sure they are all uniform in size for equal bake time.
- In a small bowl, add coconut oil, pad Thai sauce, soy sauce, and stir.
- Carefully dip each piece of tofu into the sauce and make sure both sides get coated.
- Place on the baking sheet and repeat until all the tofu is on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove from baking sheet and serve immediately, or you can also quickly heat it back up by tossing in a stir fry.
