Microblading with the HTX Brow Queen

My brows were healing so I had them slathered in Aquaphor in this pic.

I finally had the chance to meet and collaborate with Emily, also known as the HTX Brow Queen!!

Emily Calidonio is a certified microblading artist and owner and operator of her own microblading studio. She has been in the beauty industry for over 13 years. Emily’s brow background began in 2008 when she became The Brow Expert for Anastasia Beverly Hills at Nordstrom Houston. Her passion for brows and attention to detail is what sets her apart from the rest and is what ultimately solidified my decision to have this procedure done!  You can book a consultation here! Alternatively, consults are available on video chat via Face Time, Whats App, and Messenger! I have a special offer for you, keep scrolling to learn more!

Before we start, let me tell you what microblading is not:

It’s not your tia’s tattooed brows from the 90’s

It’s not permanent AKA forever

It’s not Sharpie chola brows

Tips:

nThis is one of the most important ones! Make sure the microblading specialist physically SHOWS you a brand new blade! Sketchy places reuse blades, remember you are basically tattooing your face, do you want another person’s blood on you?!?! Eww I know!! Thanks Emily for being so upfront and honest about this, I would have never know to ask this!

Come to the studio with clean brows, and no eye makeup. She will clean your brows up as part of the process, so come au natural!

Use the numbing cream! Emily uses a cream with only 5% lidocaine, but trust me you’re going to want it! She will add a second layer of numbing cream after the first round of incisions which makes the process so much more bearable.

Go back and get your touchup after 4-6 weeks! Spots will naturally fade as part of the healing process, so make sure to use Aquaphor twice a day to keep them fresh.

Your questions answered:

  • Does it hurt?
    • This will vary on your pain tolerance, for me the pain ranged from a 6 in the beginning, down to a 3 or a 4 with the numbing cream.
  • How long does it take?
    • 1 hour 1/2 and the first 20 minutes consist of letting the numbing cream kick in.
  • How long does it last?
    • Results vary per person, between 6 months to 1 year 1/2
  • How much does it cost?
    • Prices vary and based on my online research I have seen as high as $600 for brows! Emily has her own list of prices and constantly runs special promotions for new clients! Keep reading for a special offer!
  • Did you see a difference?
    • Absolutely! I walked into another store immediately after my appointment and the sales lady immediately complimented my eyebrows. This has never happened to me in my life so it was even more validation that I did the right thing!
  • How many touch ups do you need?
    • Again, it will vary on several factors. Did you give them enough time to heal? Is your skin oily? Are you in the direct sunlight a lot? Even the pigmentation of your skin will affect how long they last. I will probably go every 6 months just to keep them sharp!
  • What if eyebrows styles continue to change?
    • Yes, brow styles have changed drastically over the years. Luckily these are not permanent and Emily does a custom brow based on your face. She literally uses a ruler to measure out what best complements your face!
  • Can I wear makeup to my appointment?
    • No eye shadow whatsoever! As you can see in my before and after photos, my makeup was rubbed off, which was totally fine! The ink they use gets all over your face, so she constantly wipes around the eyes and forehead area.

Here is a self-recorded video sharing my microblading experience. Excuse the shakiness and yes there is a little blood just FYI!

All healed!
