Smoky Slow Cooker Black Eyed Peas
I’ve never been a huge fan of beans, not because I don’t like the flavor, but because so much work goes into making them! (I feel like most people go for the canned version, which is totally fine, but they don’t taste quite the same to me!) I finally figured out that you can toss them in the slow cooker and just let them do their thing, so it’s actually a painless process! Cook up a big batch and add them into your meals all week long, beans are pretty versatile, so grab your slow cooker and let’s make my Smoky Slow Cooker Black Eyes Peas!
- 12 oz pre soaked black eyed peas
- ½ lb baby carrots, cut in half
- 1.5 cups white onions chopped
- 2 tsp Cholula hot sauce
- ½ tsp liquid smoke
- ½ tsp sea salt
- ½ tsp freshly ground pepper
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- 8 cups water
- Place black eyes peas, carrots, and onions, into slow cooker. Cover with water until it just covers the ingredients. You may have to play around with the amount of water depending on the size of your slow cooker.
- Season with Cholula hot sauce, liquid smoke, sea salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Slow cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 6.

Side note: Beans and peas are both legumes, and although black eyed peas are called peas, they’re actually beans. Hope I didn’t lose ya there!
